What are your company’s goals for PGConf.PL 2026?
We're looking forward to connect with the local community, we're very supportive of a conference in the region, an excellent addition to the PostgreSQL Conference in Germany, P2D2 in Czechia, and the PGDay events in Switzerland. Our Bruce Momjian and Piotr Kolodziej had talks selected through the CfP, Torsten Steinbach signed up to deliver the sponsor session, and several colleagues will attend the event.
What will you cover, and what will attendees learn during your sponsor session at PGConf.PL 2026?
Torsten Steinbach will be giving the sponsor session, showing Postgres as a complete platform for agentic workloads. We have a lot of new stuff coming out of our AI team shortly, and we're excited to show it off. To quote Torsten: "the best place to run and govern an agent is right where the data lives. It's just PostgreSQL."
How does your company support employees who want to contribute to PostgreSQL or its community?
Our commitment to the open-source community runs deep: we have colleagues that are PostgreSQL committers, while others serve on committees (like the security and infrastructure teams), drive project translations, and organize community events. We fully back their dedication to these essential roles.
What's more, EDB's Developer U program empowers promising colleagues to elevate their PostgreSQL development skills. We provide the mentorship needed to successfully submit patches and master the community's distinct mailing list culture and CommitFest workflows. This program will have a new cohort starting in the new year.
What advice would you give to PGConf.PL attendees who are new to PostgreSQL community events?
First of all: great thinking starting with a local community event. Some PostgreSQL events will have multiple tracks, and span multiple days. Those can be quite overwhelming. Study the program beforehand, plan what talks you want to see, and when you'll have time for the hallway track instead: conversations with other community members, time to grab that speaker because you had another thought of question following their session, or browse the sponsor booths.
Oh, and make sure your day is free from work meetings! You don't want to be looking for a corner somewhere to have your Zoom meeting, or cut a great conversation short because you forgot to cancel a 1:1.
PostgreSQL celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026. What is your favourite PostgreSQL memory, milestone, or achievement?
There are so many, but we asked our local PostgreSQL guy Jakub Wartak for his:
"For me it was definitely adding Streaming Replication in PostgreSQL 9.0 (2010) and right out of box supporting accepting read-only queries on the standby. It was a clear signal that PostgreSQL (with it's reputation of being always correct) was about to eat a lot of the market share and would continue to do so for a long time to come."
